The Nairobi office serves as the regional coordinating office providing the required networking to facilitate delivery of services on a timely basis to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations.
Implementing partner and financial management:
- Serve as the focal point for assigned implementing partners, managing the full grant lifecycle from due diligence and capacity assessments through to financial close-out. Coordinate partner due diligence and ongoing risk assessments, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are implemented and monitored.
- Review partner budgets, amendments, cash forecasts, and disbursement requests in line with agreed SOPs and client regulations.
- Lead the review of monthly, quarterly, and annual partner financial reports, including budget vs. actual variance analysis, compliance checks, and expenditure reviews.
- Process and track partner disbursements, ensuring completion of Know Your Client (KYC) requirements and adherence to internal banking procedures.
- Maintain accurate and timely portfolio-level financial documentation and systems, reporting on commitments, disbursements, expenditure, and cash flow projections.
- Support client cash forecasting processes to ensure timely availability of funds based on partner needs.
Portfolio Management:
- Prepare consolidated quarterly and annual financial reports for the portfolio in agreed formats.
- Guide data and analytics teams in the development of financial dashboards and reporting tools to support client decision-making.
- Support client audit processes by providing required financial information and responding to audit findings.
- Develop and update financial manuals, SOPs, and partner guidance materials, and lead partner orientation and capacity-building initiatives.
- Escalate financial risks and issues to the Team Leader and coordinate financial review, performance, and budget meetings with partners and the client.
Additional Roles and Responsibilities
- Staff management – support in staff planning including coaching and training of Senior Associate and Associates working in my team.
- Risk management – Support and lead in ensuring full compliance with KPMG’s quality, risk, and management requirements.
- Support IDAS business development activities including strategy, opportunity tracking, proposal writing, lessons learning and thought leadership.
Academic/ Professional qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- A Masters degree in Business Administration
- Must have CPA K, ACCA, CMA or CFA or any other relevant professional qualification
- Minimum of 9 years experience in the international development sector with at least 4 years in public sector audit or fund and grants management.
Technical competencies & Personal attributes:
- Demonstrate experience in grants and fund management, preferably with donor-funded or partner-implemented programmes.
- Proven expertise in financial accounting/monitoring, risk management, and partner capacity building.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), particularly ability to articulate concepts and recommendations in written form - reports, analytical analysis etc.
- Resilience and tenacity: Must be able to sustain motivation and commitment to goals and manage stress effectively.
- Team player: Has good people management skills, work organization and coordination skills, can also coach/ mentor junior team members.
- Problem solving skills: Can handle and resolve unstructured problems, flex and adapt in new environments to create order and stability and provide effective solutions.
- Personal and professional ethics: Must operate and practice within the professional code of conduct, be honest, with self and colleagues. Multicultural skills: Must be able to operate and interact in a multicultural environment and works well in culturally diverse teams.
- Ability and willingness to travel within East Africa or the rest of Africa where the project dictates.
- Strong writing and presentation skills. §Experience working in a complex, fast-moving environment and dealing professionally with multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record in relationship management and business development.
